Most of the teens admitted they hadn’t really grasped what the group of nations actually does or how it operates. That should change within a week, when the class holds a mock summit, with each student representing a NATO country, and as students watch the actual summit unfold in their proverbial backyard. “I think it’s cool they picked Chicago, but I want to know how the (organization) helps the world,” said Marwa Musleh, 17, of Niles.
